A Comment on Picasso’s Cubism’s Planar Turn

Abstract:

Pablo Picasso experienced a stylistic transition from prototype cubism, analytical cubism to synthetic cubism from 1907 to 1919, which was a key observation window for his growth into a great artist. From the perspective of creative philosophy and methodology, re evaluating his series of ideas and breakthroughs during this period will help to deepen our understanding of the transformational connotation of Western modern art spirit. The shift towards flatness was an important innovation in Picasso's creative ideas during the cubist period, and it was a strategic shift that naturally emerged in the context of art history. Only flatness can effectively accommodate the divergence of "multiple perspectives" and truly free modern art from the shackles of classical creative conventions, thereby enabling artists to achieve greater freedom in their creative systems. In the era of digital media, flat drawing has become one of the most widely applicable basic principles in digital painting (illustration) based on element combination.
