Abstract:
This article explores the influence of native language (L1) on second language (L2) in speaking and writing. In terms of oral communication, factors such as L1 pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary, and grammatical structure may all have an impact on L2 learners' pronunciation, fluency, and accuracy. Learners may unconsciously introduce L1 pronunciation habits into L2, leading to accent problems. At the same time, the grammar structure of L1 may also affect the construction and expression of L2 sentences. In terms of writing, the influence of L1 on L2 is equally significant. The writing habits, thinking patterns, cultural background, etc. of L1 may affect the style, structure, and language expression of L2 writing. Learners may use L1 expressions in their writing, resulting in expressions or cultural misunderstandings that do not conform to the target language habits in L2 texts. Therefore, understanding the impact of L1 on L2 speaking and writing is of great significance for improving the language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills of second language learners. Educators should pay attention to these influences and adopt effective teaching strategies to help learners overcome the interference of L1 and better grasp L2.
