Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of parents' involvement in SLD children aged 7-12 years in special and inclusive schools in China from the parents’ perspective. For the purposes of this study, a 25-question questionnaire has been specially designed, which comprises three aspects; namely, the role and influence of parents as well as the challenges faced them. The questionnaire has been distributed to 180 parents of children with special learning difficulties. The results show that the importance of parental engagement is mainly connected to their role as parents, followed by the influence of parental engagement on SLD children and the difficulties parents encounter during their participation in the process. All three aspects determine parents’ participation in SLD children's learning. Indeed, the results show that their role as parents gives them more motivation to engagein their children's learning, and they also develop along with them and become role models for them. The present study examines the importance of parents' participation in SLD children's learning, and provides some ideas and suggestions to counteract possible limitations.
