Abstract:
The progressive journey that English as an International Language (EIL) and English as a Lingua Franca(EFL) is accelerating unprecedentedly. Disseminating national culture by means of language is becoming more and more countries’ unanimous agreement, and culture is also becoming the symbol of each nation’s soft power in communication with the external. Currently our country is advocating and implementing Chinese Culture Going-out Strategy policy. Thus English language and culture, as the communicative means of disseminating output and input, play an essential role. Whereas there exists Chinese cultural aphasia in the field of English in China. In tertiary educational sphere cultural aphasic phenomena are widely-prevailing among tertiary-educated students, tertiary English teaching and teaching materials. In order to expound and solve the existence of current Chinese cultural aphasic phenomenon as well as the imbalance of cultural input in our domestic English teaching including the field of teaching materials, I delved into the cultural content of the passages in textbook New Horizon College English(2nd edition) which is utilized as a case, and I addressed the correlation with College English Test (CET).
