An Investigation of Junior High School Students’Mathematical Problem-posing Ability

Abstract:

The problem posing ability is oriented towards the cultivation of innovative talents, which is an era requirement of the mathematics curriculum standards for compulsory education in China . It can promote the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents and facilitate the high-quality development of mathematics education in China. This study compiled a test paper on the mathematical problem-posing ability for junior high school students, and conducted an investigation and analysis with students in the first and second grades of junior high school in two different educational levels in Chongqing and Sichuan. The results showed that students' mathematical problem-posing ability was poor, and there were differences among different dimensions. Boys performed significantly better than girls in posing math questions.
