Abstract：

Recent years have witnessed the production of numerous domestic films, many of which have been translated into English to implement the cultural strategy of telling China's story well. Subtitling plays a critical role in this process, especially when handling culturally bound or specific source texts. The Longest Journey in Chang’an, winner of the Golden Rooster Award for Best Animation, is deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture, historical events, and emotional undertones. However, its rich cultural symbols, historical references, and linguistic nuances pose significant challenges for foreign audiences, requiring creative and context-sensitive subtitling solutions. This research adopts Pedersen's typology of translation strategies—such as domestication, omission, addition, and condensation—to examine how professional translators addressed these challenges in the film’s subtitles.
