Research on the Practical Path of Integrating National Defense Education into Comprehensive Ideological and Political Courses in Universities in the New Era

——A Case Study of the August 1st Education System in a University

Abstract:

Against the backdrop of the new era, national defense education in higher education institutions serves as a crucial mechanism for fulfilling the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education and advancing the strategy of strengthening the nation and the military. This paper examines the innovative practices of a specific university as a case study, delving into its distinctive model of deeply integrating national defense education into the construction of the “comprehensive ideological and political education system.” The paper analyzes the core essence of this model, which centers on inheriting the “red gene” as its “spirit” and the “August 1st” co-education system as its “form.” It systematically outlines innovative approaches and methods across multiple dimensions—including curriculum reform, organizational innovation, and exemplary leadership—to construct a new national defense education ecosystem that integrates both form and spirit, unifying theory with practice. The study further proposes pathways for high-quality development of national defense education in higher education institutions during the new era across three levels: curriculum, faculty, and discipline. This provides a referenceable model for constructing a national defense education system with Chinese characteristics in higher education.
