Abstract:
This practical study explores the innovative development of the provincial on-site top-tier course Comprehensive English within China’s Standards of English Language Ability (CSE) framework. Addressing the gap in applying CSE to core courses, it designs a two-year action plan involving diagnostic assessment, competency-oriented restructuring, and dynamic evaluation across multiple classes. Results demonstrate that the CSE-aligned model effectively enhances teaching outcomes, helps students achieve targeted proficiency levels (CSE 5&6), and establishes a transferable framework for course design, formative assessment, and teacher development. The study offers a replicable example for similar top-tier course construction, supporting the advancement of undergraduate English education.
