Abstract:
From a localized perspective, this paper reviews the research development of critical thinking skills among English majors in China. It reveals an evolution from adopting Western theories to establishing local frameworks such as Wen Qiufang’s hierarchical model, followed by diversified teaching practices. While progress has been made in theory, assessment tools, and practice, challenges remain, including insufficient theoretical integration, limited evaluation tools, and weak empirical research. Future efforts should focus on theoretical integration, developing intelligent assessment tools, exploring interdisciplinary training models, and deepening the integration of critical thinking education with curriculum-based ideological and political education. This will facilitate a shift towards “language and thinking synergy” in English majors, cultivating high-quality foreign language talents with both national identity and global vision.
