Abstract:
Cough variant asthma (CVA) is a special type of asthma characterized by coughing as the sole or primary symptom. Due to its natural course of wheezing and shortness of breath, CVA is often considered the initial stage of typical asthma. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) alone or in combination with long-acting β2 receptor agonists are the main treatment methods for CVA. This article combines clinical guidelines from various countries and recent research trends to introduce the etiology, clinical manifestations, pathophysiological changes and their mechanisms, diagnostic methods, treatment strategies and duration, patient prognosis and influencing factors of CVA, in order to provide reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of CVA.
