Abstract:
Positrons, as the antimatter of electrons, were the first antimatter discovered in the history of human science. They not only exist in science fiction works, but also have scientific basis as a real existence. At the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute of High Energy"), the positron collider is conducting collision experiments between matter and antimatter every day, and the research and application of positrons go beyond that. Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) are two specialized disciplines based on the development and growth of positrons at high energies. Positrons have exactly the same properties as electrons, except for carrying a positive charge. The phenomenon of "anomalous absorption" of gamma rays passing through lead was discovered, accompanied by "special radiation" with an energy of approximately the static mass of electrons. This discovery played a crucial role in the subsequent discovery of positrons, and since then, positron based research has been closely linked to high-energy research.
