Abstract:
This paper examines the renovation of old courtyard neighborhoods in China's urbanization process, using the "Old 'Call' New Bud—Deepening the Old Courtyard Renovation Action" project as a key case study. It delves into the multidimensional challenges and systemic solutions currently faced. The study identifies core issues such as aging infrastructure, prominent safety hazards, fragmented community governance, and disrupted cultural continuity. By reviewing existing policy frameworks and practical cases, this paper proposes an integrated renewal path that combines community participation, the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) model, and smart governance. This path aims to synchronize the physical and social regeneration of old courtyards through innovative governance frameworks, sustainable technological applications, and cultural revitalization strategies, promoting inclusive, resilient, and culturally sensitive urban sustainable development. The research provides a reference framework with both theoretical insights and practical guidance for similar urban renewal projects.
