Abstract:

As global climate change and sustainable development emerge as central concerns of our time, ecological discourse functions not only as a vehicle for conveying environmental information but also as a vital medium for shaping ecological ideologies, guiding public perception, and advancing national policies. This study examines the white paper Marine Eco-environmental Protection in China, released by The State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China in 2024, from the perspective of critical cognitive linguistics. Employing the STA three-dimensional model of proximization theory, it systematically investigates the characteristics of proximization strategies, the cognitive mechanisms involved, and the ecological philosophy embedded in the discourse. The findings reveal that the white paper accentuates the proximity of ecological risks in the spatial dimension, underscores the urgency of governance actions in the temporal dimension, constructs a “shared future for humanity and nature” in the axiological dimension, and fosters a consensus on ecological responsibility and collective identity at the cognitive and emotional levels.
