On the Modern Significance of Thomas' Natural Law Thought

Abstract:

Although Thomas was a medieval religious philosopher, his natural law theory contains many factors that Western modern bourgeois philosophers need, including both content factors (such as the idea of equality for all) and form factors (such as the idea that secular rights should be limited). When Western modern bourgeois thinkers absorbed the relevant factors in his natural law according to their own needs and used them to promote the development of Western modern capitalism, Thomas' natural law thought gained modern significance.
