A Brief Discussion on the Application of the Blended Teaching Model in Humanities and Social Sciences Courses in Higher Education Institutions

Abstract:

Driven by the dual imperatives of digital transformation in education and the construction of the New Liberal Arts, blended teaching, as a novel model integrating online self-directed learning with offline interactive instruction, has gradually become a significant direction for teaching reform in higher education institutions. Humanities and social sciences courses in universities, centered on cultivating humanistic literacy, enhancing critical thinking skills, and fostering practical application abilities, are characterized by strong critical thinking, humanistic qualities, and practicality. Traditional single teaching models can no longer fully meet the demands of cultivating liberal arts talents in the new era. Based on the connotation and characteristics of the blended teaching model, this paper combines the teaching features and core requirements of humanities and social sciences courses in higher education institutions to conduct an in-depth analysis of the current problems existing in the application of blended teaching in these courses. It proposes targeted optimization strategies from five dimensions: the design of teaching objectives and content, the integration of online and offline teaching segments, the construction of teaching resources, the reform of evaluation methods, and the enhancement of teacher competencies. The aim is to fully leverage the advantages of blended teaching, address the pain points in liberal arts instruction, improve the teaching quality of humanities and social sciences courses, and provide theoretical references and practical insights for teaching reform in this field.
