Study on the Application of Traditional Folk Art Elements in Contemporary Painting Creation
Feng Yu
Xinjiang Normal University
Abstract:
Folk art is an art form that is based on life and has its roots in life itself. Modeling, colors and pattern meanings in folk art have been part of people life for centuries. In contemporary painting, the departure of one single path through the comprehension and restructuring of such elements as paper-cutting, New Year prints, and embroidery produce a powerful feeling of rhythm and emotion in the art. According to the author, it is a bad result when merely borrowing traditional symbols is used. The significance lies in the recreation of the linear structure, color matching, and cultural information that these structures represent, which makes them relevant to the specific requirements of a particular work. Thus, by exploring the use of the traditional folk art elements in modern painting through three different perspectives: the artistic features, transformation processes, and creative approaches, it will be possible to improve the artistic level and aesthetic worth of the work.
