Abstract:

Amid the wide popularization of digital livelihood services, digital literacy has become a key factor affecting residents’ social security participation. Based on CFPS2022 microdata, this study measures digital literacy with the entropy weight method from five dimensions (digital access, digital life, digital social interaction, digital learning, digital work) and constructs an ordered categorical variable of social security completeness by aggregating five social insurances. Using multiple linear regression, we find digital literacy significantly promotes residents’ social security completeness, and the conclusion remains robust after including control variables. Age has a significantly negative impact on social security participation; males, urban residents, Party members and married residents possess higher social security completeness, and residents in central and western regions have lower security levels than those in the east. This study expands relevant research and provides empirical support for digital-enabled social security equalization.
