Abstract：

As the secondary origin center of Asian cotton, China's cotton breeding has gone through a process from relying solely on imported varieties to popularizing self bred varieties, from focusing only on the high yield of varieties to synchronous improvement of yield and quality, and then to pursuing the unity of high yield, high quality, disease resistance and insect resistance. Based on a comprehensive study of the history and current situation of cotton variety improvement in China, this article provides an outlook on the prospects of cotton variety improvement technology in China.
