Research Progress on the Preparation of SodiumHypochlorite by Metal Electrode Electrolysis

Abstract:

This paper reviews the research progress in the preparation of sodium hypochlorite by metal electrode electrolysis. In the preparation process, the optimization of electrode materials, the improvement of electrolytic technology and process progress, as well as the preparation and application are the key research fields. The preparation efficiency and selectivity of sodium hypochlorite can be effectively improved by electrolysis of seawater or sodium chloride solution and the use of different electrode materials, such as modified carbon based electrode and Ru IR based electrode. The modification of electrode surface, the control of current density and the selection of additives play an important role in improving product purity and electrolytic stability. And the design of bipolar membrane electrolyzer is particularly critical for the preparation of high-purity sodium hypochlorite. In addition, the upgrading of electrolysis technology, such as diaphragm free electrolysis method, gas decoupling electrolysis process and other emerging technologies are continuously promoting industrial progress. To sum up, efficient and environmental friendly electrolytic preparation of sodium hypochlorite can be achieved by integrating and optimizing electrode materials, processes and technologies.
