Abstract:
The statues in the Yunmen Mountain Grottoes bear witness to the unique cultural landscape of the Sui
and Tang dynasties, the stone carvings at Qingzhou's Yunmen Mountain Grottoes bear profound historical and
cultural significance, serving as crucial empirical evidence for studying ancient sculptural art and cultural
exchange. However, after enduring millennia of weathering, natural erosion, and human impact, the statues' garments have suffered damage and flaking. Crucial details such as drapery textures and decorative patterns
have been compromised, not only affecting the artistic integrity of the sculptures but also hindering the
thorough exploration of their cultural significance. Against the backdrop of innovations in cultural heritage
conservation techniques, digital restoration has emerged as a vital method for addressing the challenges in
studying damaged statue attire, owing to its advantages of high precision, non-contact operation, and
reproducibility. This paper analyses the significance of studying the robes depicted in the Yunmen Mountain
Grottoes, explores their cultural value, and examines the practical application of digital restoration techniques to
these robes. It aims to provide new perspectives and methodologies for statue research, thereby advancing the
preservation and transmission of cultural heritage.
