Tracing “Feminist” in the NOW Corpus (2010–2024): A Corpus-based Study of Word Frequency, Collocation, and Social Movement

Abstract:

This study examines the usage of the word “feminist” in the NOW Corpus (2010–2024) through frequency and collocation analyses. Findings show significant fluctuations in annual frequency, aligning with key social movements. High-frequency collocates reveal shifts from identity-oriented to activism-related contexts, reflecting changes in media framing of feminism. The study highlights the dynamic interaction between linguistic representation and socio-cultural change in contemporary news discourse.
