Abstract:

Under the dual pressures of energy and environment, developing new energy vehicles is an important step in the national development strategy. To promote the vigorous and healthy development of the new energy vehicle industry, the government provides strong support to new energy vehicle companies, mainly through various tax incentives and financial assistance. However, it is easy for companies to become overly reliant on external "blood transfusions" instead of focusing on improving their own "blood-making" capabilities. Therefore, the core purpose of this paper is to explore whether government subsidies can effectively guide R&D and innovation behaviors within companies and enhance their core competitiveness. Taking GAC Group as an example, this paper conducts a case study from three dimensions: innovation input, innovation output, and innovation efficiency. It finds that government subsidies have a significant positive impact on the innovation performance of vehicle companies, but there is still much room for improvement in enhancing innovation efficiency. It is hoped that this paper can provide references for new energy vehicle companies on how to efficiently utilize government subsidies and for the government to improve the mechanisms for subsidy distribution, supervision, and evaluation.
