Abstract:

As a special population for medication, the physiological and cognitive characteristics of children determine the specificity of pediatric-specific dosage forms, and the rationality of the dosage form directly impacts clinical medication adherence and medication safety. This article outlines the fundamentals of pediatric-specific dosage form design, identifies medication needs, design principles, and common dosage forms based on children's physiological characteristics. It systematically analyzes the four core factors influencing pediatric medication adherence, namely factors related to the dosage form, the pediatric patient, healthcare professionals, and caregivers. Based on this analysis, targeted dosage form optimization strategies are proposed from seven dimensions: taste, dosage, convenience, appearance, safety, age-group suitability, and caregiver support. This research aims to provide a reference for the development of pediatric-specific dosage forms, improve medication adherence, and ensure the safety and efficacy of medication use in children.
