Technology and Humanity: Identity Dilemma and Reconstruction of L2 Writing Teachers in the AI Era
Zeng Zihui
School of English Studies, Xi'an International Studies University
Abstract:
Against the wide use of AI in L2 writing instruction, this study explores teachers’ identity dilemmas and humanistic reconstruction from a technology-humanity perspective. Using a mixed-methods design, it investigates Chinese L2 writing teachers with varied experience and AI proficiency. It is expected that teachers face dual-role conflicts between technical executors and humanistic guides, caused by internal competency gaps and external pressures. Grounded in dynamic systems theory, L2 writing theories and humanistic language teaching theory, this study proposes a human-centered framework to reallocate mechanical tasks to AI and refocus on humanistic teaching. This research enriches AI-integrated L2 education theories and provides references for teacher identity reconstruction.
Key Words:
L2 writing teachers; identity dilemma; humanistic reconstruction
