Abstract:

Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies, this study uses Poisson regression model to empirically test the impact of family intergenerational support on children's fertility behavior and its heterogeneity. The results showed that parental financial support significantly inhibited children’s fertility, care support significantly promoted fertility, and emotional support was no longer significant after controlling other factors. The heterogeneity of household registration shows that the promotion effect of care support is only significant in rural samples, but not in urban areas. Gender heterogeneity shows that economic support negatively affects men's fertility desire, care support positively affects men, and the three types of support have no significant impact on women.
