Abstract:

In the context of continuous globalization and digital development, English for Science and Technology (EST) translation has become an important carrier for international scientific and technological communication and industrial cooperation. Driven by digital technologies such as 5G, translation software has been widely used in EST translation with its advantages of high efficiency and convenience, gradually becoming an indispensable auxiliary tool in translation practice. Nevertheless, in the professional translation of petroleum energy economics and trade, which is characterized by strong professionalism, rigorous logic and unique industry norms, translation software still exposes prominent defects. Based on a case study of petroleum energy economics and trade translation, this paper systematically analyzes the main limitations of current translation software, including inaccurate expression of professional terms, insufficient contextual logical reasoning, poor cultural adaptation and rigid handling of innovative expressions. On this basis, this study discusses the rational application strategy of machine translation and manual translation, and puts forward that only the organic integration of artificial intelligence technology and professional translators’ theoretical literacy and practical experience can effectively improve the quality of EST translation, so as to provide reference for the standardized and accurate development of professional translation in the field of petroleum energy economics and trade.
