Abstract:

Now that China has largely resolved the issue of ensuring that all school-age children and adolescents have access to education, the balanced development of compulsory education has become a key policy priorityin order to address disparities in educational quality across regions, between urban and rural areas, and among schools; to meet the public’s demand for high-quality education; and to strengthen the foundation of  social equity. Based on the CNKI database and utilizing CiteSpace software, this study conducts a visual analysis of research literature on the balanced development of compulsory education in China from2002 to 2025. The findings indicate that the balanced development of compulsory education in China has generally undergone three stages: laying the foundation, deepening practice, and tackling challenges to achieve high quality; Research institutions at universities, teacher training colleges, and educational policy research departments constitute the primary research forces. Existing research primarily covers topics such as balanced resource allocation, safeguarding educational equity, pathways for quality improvement, regionally distinctive practices, and the construction of evaluation indicators. Looking ahead, future research should broaden or deepen its scopeinareas such as strengthening collaborative innovation, leveraging digital technology to promote balance, expanding into special contexts, and iterating dynamic evaluation systems.
