Abstract:
To accurately identify the key factors affecting 8th-grade students' mathematics academic performance and enhance the scientificity and pertinence of junior high school mathematics teaching, this study selected 50 8th-grade students from Class 08 of the 2024 cohort as research participants. Data on students' classroom participation, after-class homework completion quality and basic computational ability were collected through classroom observation, homework evaluation and special tests. Combined with students' final mathematics examination scores, SPSS 26.0 was adopted to conduct descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis and linear regression analysis. The results revealed that after-class homework completion quality(r=0.767, P<0.01), basic computational ability (r=0.683, P<0.01) and classroom participation (r=0.613, P<0.01) were all significantly and positively correlated with mathematics performance. Among these factors, after-classhomework completion quality had the highest predictive weight on academic performance ( β=0.472), whichcould explain 78.5% of the variance in students' scores. Based on the statistical results, this paper put forward targeted teaching strategies from four aspects: homework optimization, computational ability training, classroom interaction improvement and stratified teaching. The research provides data support and practical references for alleviating the polarization of 8th-grade mathematics performance and improving the overall quality of mathematics teaching.
