The Development of Blockchain and Its Applica- tion in Agriculture

Abstract:

[Concept] Blockchain is a decentralized, open and shared distributed database, characterized by decentralization, high openness, anonymity, machine autonomy, tamper proof and traceable information. At present, blockchain technology has become a cutting-edge technology that countries around the world are competing to develop, and has been applied in many fields such as finance, education, and healthcare. The application achievements are endless, and China has also included it in its national strategy. The current research literature on blockchain mostly focuses on the development and application of blockchain technology in the financial field, with relatively few literature that systematically reviews the development history and characteristics of blockchain technology. "Blockchain+Agriculture" is also in its infancy. This article summarizes the main development process of blockchain, which is divided into four stages: technology origin stage, blockchain 1.0 stage, blockchain 2.0 stage, and blockchain 3.0 stage. The main characteristics and development status of each stage are summarized, and representative blockchain application cases in the agricultural field are explored in depth. On the basis of reviewing the development process and analyzing application cases, this paper explores the potential application of blockchain technology, summarizes the new opportunities of blockchain in the agricultural field, and puts forward thoughts on the development of blockchain technology in China's agricultural field. [Outlook] The application of blockchain technology can effectively reduce information asymmetry, improve information transparency, reduce data storage costs, and contribute to the development of modern agriculture. In order to better apply blockchain in the agricultural field, it is necessary to have a deeper understanding of the potential problems and challenges it faces in the future, and take targeted measures to promote the development of blockchain in the agricultural field.
