Abstract:

In the era of globalization, China-Japan business exchanges are on the rise, yet differences in time perceptions pose hidden obstacles in cross-cultural communication. Japan, influenced by Hall's monochronic time system, prioritizes strict time management, while China, adopting a polychronic approach, is more flexible. This divergence often sparks misunderstandings and conflicts in business cooperation, such as the Chinese side's tardiness causing trust issues for the Japanese. Through empirical research, this paper examines how time perception differences affect business communication and proposes integration strategies. It finds that such conflicts hinder communication efficiency, delay decisions, and harm business ties and corporate images. To integrate time perceptions, the paper suggests enhancing cultural sensitivity, adjusting communication methods flexibly, and establishing shared time norms. It also underscores the value of cross-cultural training and practical exercises. This research offers theoretical and practical insights for China-Japan business cooperation, proposes dynamic time norm adjustment strategies, and provides a fresh perspective for cross-cultural studies.
