Abstract:

In order to clarify the mechanism that the particle size of PTFE packings suppress the leakage rate of mechanical seal, this paper integrates the properties of PTFE packings with the leakage path of mechanical seal, and analyze in four aspects :packing tightness, interfacial adhesion, friction and wear, and fluid blocking. This work demonstrates that the particle size of PTFE packings synergically regulate the leaking rate through controlling the seal interface gap, lubricating film forming ability, and fluid penetrating resistance. Small particle size tends to agglomerate, large particle size leads to poor fill-in;an appropriate particle size (10-50μm) can achieve the best sealing effect, this paper reveals microscopically the influence law of particle size on leakage, and provides a reference for the reasonable selection of packing particle size from the theoretical aspect.
