Design of an STM32-Based Smart Medicine Box and Medication Reminder Control System

Abstract:
With the accelerating aging of the population, an increasing number of elderly individuals are facing difficulties in managing their medication at home. Among these challenges, poor medication adherence, frequent forgetfulness, and missed doses are particularly prominent. These issues not only compromise therapeutic efficacy but may also exacerbate underlying conditions, placing considerable burden on both the elderly themselves and their family caregivers. Therefore, designing a simple, practical, and cost-effective intelligent medication-assistance device can effectively help elderly patients adhere to prescribed regimens, take medication on time, and alleviate the caregiving pressure on families. In this study, an intelligent medicine box and medication reminder control system was developed based on the STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller, incorporating a DS1302 real-time clock circuit, an LCD1602 display circuit, a key input circuit, a DHT11 temperature and humidity sensing circuit, a pill-quantity detection circuit, an infrared lid-opening detection circuit, as well as buzzer and LED alarm circuits. The system is capable of performing medication time setting, scheduled reminders, medicine‑box status monitoring, pill‑quantity assessment, and information display functions.
